Enhancing EBSA Scientific Methodologies and Approaches: The Global Ocean Biodiversity Initiative contribution2016-12-12
The Global Ocean Biodviersity Initiative (GOBI) has an opportunity to contribute to the Recommendations on the future of EBSAs to COP13 from SBSTTA20. A new 5-year scientific programme, funded by the German International Climate Initiative, aims to generate new data and improve scientific guidance for the application of EBSA criteria. The aim of this side event is to share with delegations the variety of work packages that will be tackled by the GOBI-IKI project; the types of information that will be made available to Parties and competent international organisations; and highlight linkages to other processes (i.e. UN BBNJ PrepCom and SDGs, Convention on Migratory Species, IUCN Marine mammal Task Force). The side event will be co-chaired by Prof. Giuseppe Notarbartolo di Sciara (Tethys Institute/IUCN) and Prof. David Johnson (GOBI Secretariat) with presentations from CSIRO, MarViva Foundation, Duke University and the Tethys Institute.
