Wetlands for the Future Fund (WFF): 20 years Benefiting Wetland Conservation and Wise Use in Latin America and the Caribbean2016-12-09
To celebrate 20 years of the Wetlands for the Future Fund, the Ramsar Secretariat along with the United States Department and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service will launch during the side event a commemorative booklet in English and Spanish of the impact of the Fund to the implementation of the Convention and it Strategic Plans in Latin America and the Caribbean. Also will be highlighted its contribution to the 5th Joint Work Plan of the Convention on Biological Diversity and Ramsar, in which the Ramsar Convention has a lead implementation role for wetlands for the CBD (through CBD decision III/21) and the CBD-Ramsar Memorandum of Cooperation (1996; renewed 2011). During the side event there will be presentations of key players in the creation and evolution of the fund but also it will show case through presentations/videos some of the most successful stories that can be replicated in other Ramsar regions and countries around the world. It is expected the attendance of Ramsar and CBD Focal Points, International Organizations Partners, NGOs and other stakeholders that have benefited from the Fund.
