Multiple approaches to valuing nature: the work of IPBES on diverse values and its echo in practice

2016-12-08

The objectives of the side event are to: Present the conceptual basis of the IPBES guide on diverse conceptualizations of multiple values of nature and its benefits; Bring together related initiatives on alternative or pluralistic ways to value nature, nature's benefits to people and their contribution to a good quality of life; Highlight how it may be actually used in practice, with examples from UNU and partners (valuation for ABS) and the GIZ ValuES project (GIZ); and Discuss how all this is relevant in the current debate for establishing national priorities and targets and adopting a Stratigic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 as pursued by the CBD
